Bangbay Siboliban was born in Laos, the youngest of four children. Her family moved to San Francisco when she was 1 year old. After her family relocated to Seattle, she moved to New York in 1997. In 2001, she received one of the first Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies from Barnard College, with cooperation from the Film Department at Columbia University. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Media Arts Production from the City College of New York in June 2004. She currently resides in Los Angeles.

Her first name means "Hidden Leaf."
